Situated inside the Northumberland National Park, with a backdrop of the Simonside Hills and a pleasant descent to the lovely Coquet valley above the town of Rothbury, The Old Mill is an excellent base from which to explore the region.

Step outside and access the footpath that leads to Newtown Park, the Forestry Commission walks, the crags and 1410 foot high summit of Simonside. St Oswald’s Way passes close by at Lordenshaws. Walk here to view a fine example of prehistoric rock art. This is red squirrel country and they can be observed scampering among the trees in the Simonside forest.

Rothbury welcomes visitors who seek to enjoy the natural beauty of Northumberland and the Coquet Valley in particular. There are many traditional pubs, coffee shops, bakers, butchers and galleries. There are pleasant riverside walks and a playground for the children.
